Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Love the crab herbal soup. The soup very thick and tasty. The steam egg also taste really special with the pork. And the signature vege also one of my favourite. Price is okay too. Location not hard to find and parking also not hard to find."
"Usually busy during lunch time on weekdays. This review was on a very cloudy day hence it was comfortable to enjoy a slow lunch. On a hot sunny day, it can get a bit too warm and sweaty. Kangkung belacan is very good here. The signature crab soup is always popular. Salted egg mantis prawn is average. Chaipor fish isn't the best in town. Parking is very limited but you can park across the street and walk over."
"Tried this place with family members, which was located at Juru. Parking was a bit tricky over the weekend and we parked at the suburb nearby and just walked over. The place was quite packed at around 6pm on a Sunday night, so it is good to either make a reservation or go earlier. The six of us, comprising 5 adults and 1 child ordered the signature flower crab soup, braised pig trotter, Teochew steamed fish, claypot tofu, and stir fried kangkong (which was not photographed). The signature crab soup has to be the highlight of the meal, and we ordered only 2 crabs as some in our party did not eat crab. The herbal soup was aromatic and fragrant. The crabs were fresh, though not very meaty, and we all enjoyed the soup. The braised pig trotter was decadent with meat which just falls off. Plenty of gelatine, fat and skin to make the dish melt-in-your-mouth. It was good and we have no complaints here. The Teochew steamed fish was average to good. Fish was fresh and the typical sourish Teochew steamed style accompanied the fish well. It was also not over cooked and the flesh sweet and flaky. The claypot tofu was pretty average. Portion was generous and it also had some minced pork and slices of mushroom. The fried kangkong was OK but portion was a little small. Overall though, the food was more than enough for all of us and the price was fair. Our only suggestion was that the shop needs better ventilation as the smoke from the kitchen drifted to the seating areas in the shop (we were seated in the middle). This means that whenever something more smoky or spicy was being cooked, the patrons would cough. It also means that you will need to be prepared to sweat quite a bit if you sit indoor. Overall, we are pleased with the food and price and are happy to return to try other dishes."
"Food is tasty & suitable for those who can't eat numbing spicy dishes. While the signature dish here is the herbal crab soup, other dishes like its steamed fish with fried minced radish & stir fried vegetables with bamboo clams are good too. Prices are also reasonable at this new village restaurant in Juru which is quite spacious & clean. Go early to get a good parking spot."
"If you are looking for simple Chinese cooking style with a traditional Chinese shop vibe and decor, then this place fits it to a T. It seems to fill up quite quickly so be early if you can. The staffs are efficient and comes to your table to take your order quickly. Strangely they assume you are a regular and you know what you want. If you are a first timer, their ability to guide you in ordering dishes leaves much to be desired. As for the food, my only peeve is they are strangely not hot enough. They come warm and I find this weird. I would suggest you order their herbal crab and preserved vegetable fish. The herbal crab, albeit a little salty is tasty. Thick soup, generous content, delicious flavour with sweet fresh crab. There's nothing much to complain. The preserved vegetable fish is also an enjoyable dish. Fresh fish, lightly salted gravy and fragrantly fried preserved vegetable. The only thing that would make it better is a more crunchy preserved vegetable in a more oiler bed. The clams were cooked well. Light, whiff of ginger and scallion with nicely timed cook of the clams ensure a nice balance of flavor and chewy meat. However the vegetable and egg dish served in the metal plate was a failure in my eyes. First, there was absolutely no sizzling. To me, if a dish were to be served in a flat metal ware, it has got to sizzle. There's no two ways about it. The egg was just average while the vegetable and seafood content within was cooked in a hurry, with simple non exceptional flavours."
"All dishes are above average compared to other chu char places that I have visited. The prices are reasonable. The shop can be warm and crowded during peak hours, so it is advisable to go earlier."
"Very affordable restaurant for dinner. Signature dish Herbal Flower Crab soup. Delicious with prawns added in. Pork belly is a heavenly dish. Thick succulent and tasty... Will be so tasty and healthy pork fat too Can come support for sure."
"The vegetable so nice. The taste comes right away after taking a bite."
